The American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACEC California) is a statewide association of approximately 900 engineering, land surveying, construction management and environmental consulting firms. The statewide office is located in Sacramento.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, or equivalent experience in a related field
3 to 5+ years of progressive experience in membership development, sales, business development, or relationship management
Proven track record of driving membership growth, retention, and engagement initiatives
Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic outreach and recruitment campaigns
Strong leadership experience, including team management and cross-functional collaboration
Experience working with associations, nonprofits, chambers of commerce, or member-based organizations is highly preferred
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Description – The Membership Director is responsible for the overall strategy, planning and implementation of activities to promote membership growth and retention. The Membership Director is charged with the marketing and delivery of ACEC California’s member services and facilitates internal communication with the 21 regional chapters. The Membership Director assists association leadership in business development opportunities to develop general and affinity programs, generate non-dues revenue, partner outside of association membership and serve as a spokesperson for the association before the leadership. The Membership Director will assist association leadership in the creation and maintenance and recruitment of new ACEC California Committees as the membership necessitates.OVERALL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Membership Development/Retention
Develop and implement strategies to identify, engage and recruit new member firms
Develop and implement strategies to retain member firms, identify at-risk members and engage membership and staff on retention efforts
Lead A/R collections
Develop and implement affinity programs based on membership needs
Serve as the primary liaison and communication link with the association members, regional chapters, and National staff on membership issues
Responsible for staff-based onboarding of new members
Development of Affiliate Member Program and company engagement
Communication Responsibilities
Produce weekly/monthly reports of prospective and new member activity to ACEC California chapters, staff, and Board of Directors
Produce monthly Chapter Talking Points
Develop Member/Chapter recognition and engagement programs
Develop and execute targeted outreach strategies to secure sponsorships, advertising partnerships, and event exhibition opportunities.
General Communication to staff on membership issues
Committee Responsibilities
Chair to the Membership Committee
Aid/staff other committees as the membership necessitates.
Additional Responsibilities
On behalf of the membership and the Business Management & Insurance Committee, oversee the review and production the ACEC California Salary Survey
Additional tasks as necessitated by Executive Director/Executive Committee/Board

Travel – Up to 30% per year
Works under minimal supervision
Hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule
Salary & Compensation
Annual base salary of $65k to $85k plus commission
