- Senior Business Systems Analyst

The Association of Social Work Boards provides support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices to strengthen public protection.
The Senior Business Systems Analyst serves as the strategic owner and business lead for ASWB's enterprise business applications, acting as a bridge between business stakeholders, technology partners, and external vendors. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, this role combines business analysis, product ownership, application portfolio management, vendor relationship management, and project leadership to ensure ASWB's technology investments effectively support organizational goals and member services.
This position leads the continuous improvement and modernization of key business platforms, including ASWBCentral, the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) platform, re:Members (AMS/CRM), and related cloud-based systems. The Senior Business Systems Analyst develops application roadmaps, prioritizes enhancements, drives requirements analysis, coordinates vendor partnerships, and champions the voice of the customer throughout the application lifecycle.
Requirements
Location: Because this is a hybrid position, preferred candidates will reside in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, or North Carolina and be able to commute to the office for in-person meetings and team activities two days a week.
Strategic Application Ownership and Product Leadership
- Own and manage the business application roadmap for key enterprise platforms
- Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities for modernization, automation, process improvement, and enhanced member experiences
- Translate strategic business objectives into prioritized system enhancements and technology initiatives
- Ensure technology investments align with organizational priorities and operational goals
- Serve as the business product owner for assigned enterprise applications and represent stakeholder priorities during planning and implementation activities
- Maintain application governance practices and support long-term platform sustainability
Business Analysis & Requirements Leadership
- Serve as a senior liaison between business units, IT staff, and external vendors to ensure shared understanding of objectives, constraints, and tradeoffs
- Serve as primary business relationship manager for assigned software vendors
- Coordinate vendor deliverables, enhancement requests, support activities, and service reviews
- Participate in contract renewals, budgeting discussions, and vendor evaluations
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure alignment with business requirements
- Collaborate with vendors to identify future capabilities and roadmap opportunities
- Lead complex requirements gathering through interviews, workshops, facilitation sessions, and analysis of current- and future-state business processes
- Analyze business needs and determine whether requirements can be satisfied through existing commercial software, system configuration, enhancement of internally developed systems, or custom development
- Produce and oversee high-quality documentation including business requirements, functional specifications, workflows, and acceptance criteria
- Establish and promote best practices for business analysis, documentation, and stakeholder engagement
Process Improvement & Solution Design
- Manage the lifecycle of critical business applications including ASWBCentral, ACE, re:Members, and future cloud-based business solutions
- Coordinate application governance, release planning, optimization efforts, adoption initiatives, and performance monitoring
- Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation and operational efficiency
- Support licensing administration and application usage reviews
Testing, Training & Adoption
- Lead collaboration with business users and technical teams to define testing strategies, test plans, and test cases
- Coordinate and/or perform functional testing to ensure solutions meet documented requirements prior to deployment
- Oversee user acceptance testing and ensure appropriate business sign-off
- Develop, provide, or coordinate system training, job aids, and educational materials to support adoption and long-term usability
- Develop communication and change readiness plans for significant technology initiatives
- Measure adoption and business outcomes following implementation
- Promote organizational readiness and continuous improvement initiatives
Project & Work Management Support
- Lead medium- to large-scale technology initiatives and system enhancement efforts
- Coordinate cross-functional teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and consultants throughout the project lifecycle
- Serve as primary business relationship manager for assigned software vendors
- Coordinate vendor deliverables, enhancement requests, support activities, and service reviews
- Participate in contract renewals, budgeting discussions, and vendor evaluations
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure alignment with business requirements
- Collaborate with vendors to identify future capabilities and roadmap opportunities
- Maintain project plans, status reporting, risk tracking, and dependency management
- Support successful solution deployment, user adoption, and business readiness activities
Data & Reporting Support
- Use SQL and reporting/query tools to validate data, troubleshoot complex issues, and support reporting and analytics initiatives
- Partner with business leaders to define key metrics, dashboards, and reports to support operational visibility and decision-making

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience analyzing, documenting, and leading business requirements and systems analysis in a business or technology environment
- Experience serving as a product owner, business systems analyst, enterprise applications analyst, or similar role
- Experience managing enterprise SaaS or cloud-based business applications
- Experience managing software vendors and third-party technology partners
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives involving both business and technical stakeholders
- Experience working in or supporting associations, professional societies, licensing boards, certification bodies, or other regulated organizations strongly preferred
- Experience with CRM/AMS platforms, workflow systems, reporting tools, and custom business applications
- Working knowledge of SQL and reporting/query tools preferred
- Understanding of API and system integration concepts preferred
- Experience with AI-enabled productivity solutions, including Microsoft Copilot preferred
- Knowledge of data governance and release management practices preferred
