Posting Frequency

Positions and news are updated daily on our website.  We also mail a biweekly print edition to subscribers, which includes position listings as well as the latest news on careers and people in associations, profiles on association leaders, and articles on leadership and transition topics by experts, including executive recruiters and lawyers.

Types of Jobs

CEO Update lists senior-level positions for most of the major association/nonprofit functional areas.  You will find positions for chief staff executives as well as in communications and public relations, government relations, finance and administration, education, programs, and member services.  Because we are focused on the association/nonprofit executive, we do not include highly technical positions, including those focused on technology services or requiring a very specialized background (e.g. a Ph.D. in a scientific field).  Additionally, we limit the number of development department searches, only including the most senior level searches with the largest organizations.

Number of Positions

Each edition typically includes approximately 300 searches.

Position Locations

In the CEO Searches section, about 30% of listings are for organizations in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and 70% are for organizations located in other areas of the country.  In the Senior Staff Searches section about 60% of the listings are for Washington, DC area positions and 40% are located in other areas.  While CEO Update provides national coverage, most listings are for opportunities in major metropolitan areas, including Washington, DC, New York, NY, and Chicago, IL.

Positions in the newsletter are at the CEO, deputy director, vice president and director levels.
