Confronted with aging old-line industries, two different associations
have chosen Walter B. McCormick to come in and make sweeping changes.
As a freshman CEO at the American Trucking Associations, he led a broad
restructuring effort to consolidate the group’s far-flung councils
and subsidiaries and made a push for new technologies that would revamp
the industry. USTelecom ordered similar changes.

In an unusually swift response, the U.S. Supreme Court April 22 denied
the National Association of Manufacturers a temporary injunction from
the new lobbying and ethics law that would have allowed the trade group
to keep their membership secret until the case is resolved.
